This class is designed to interrogate the spatial metaphors often used to describe the Internet. What is “cyberspace” and where do we go when we go “online”? What is gained through thinking of the Internet as a space and what opportunities are missed? What does this have to do with our physical bodies and our desire for freedom? During the 8 weeks of this class, we will wrestle with the question of whether we should think about the Internet as a space, a tool for communication, or both. We will explore the meaning of digital spaces in American culture, business and government.
- This course is offered as part of the Summer Intensive in Technology & Innovation, and qualifies toward the Certificate of Completion in Technology & Innovation.
