Credit & Evaluation

High School Summer College
All High School Summer College eight-week courses carry Stanford academic credit. Grades are recorded on an official Stanford University transcript, along with the course name and credit earned. Upon request, the Office of the University Registrar will send official transcripts to the institutions you specify.

Students are eligible to earn college credit for undergraduate classes. You are allowed to enroll only in courses for which you have met the prerequisites. By coming to the High School Summer College program, you have an opportunity to explore avenues that do not exist at your high school. Summer College students in the residential program are required to take a minimum eight-unit course load. Commuter students must take a minimum of three units of course work. The maximum course load is 12 units.

The Stanford Calendar is based on the quarter system. The unit of credit is the quarter unit, generally evaluated as equivalent to two-thirds of a semester unit.

Course work is demanding and grading is, for most students, far more difficult than in high school. High School Summer College participants are graded on a scale equivalent to undergraduate classes at Stanford. The expectations of instructors are the same for all students.

Acceptance into our High School Summer College program does not imply admission to Stanford University as a matriculated undergraduate student.

Participants in the High School Summer College program enjoy all the privileges of regularly admitted students. The work completed may not apply toward a credential or Stanford degree unless the student is admitted to regular standing. If the student later applies to Stanford and is admitted, the work completed in the High School Summer College program may be applied toward the requirements for a Stanford University degree or credential.

Transfer of summer college courses and credits to other colleges and universities is dependent upon individual college or university policies. Policies vary and it is recommended that students save all course materials (e.g. syllabus, tests, problem sets) should they be requested as part of the transfer credit evalutaion process at a later date.
