Development of critical reading, writing, and research skills applicable to any area of study. Emphases include close reading, analysis of varied texts, development of strong theses, revision strategies, and introduction to research-based argument. Small classes facilitate interaction between students and instructors. Each section has a thematic emphasis developed by the instructor; students choose sections based on individual interests.
Note: Course Title: Science Fictions and Facts: Writing about Technology and Social Change. Students must apply and be accepted into Summer College. For High School students ONLY. Does not fulfill the University's undergraduate writing requirement. Attendance is required at the first two sessions to keep pace. No final exam for any section.
The elements of fiction writing: narration, description, and dialogue. Students write complete stories and participate in story workshops. May be repeated for credit.
Prerequisite: Program in Writing and Rhetoric 1.
