This class will provide the student with an introduction to Aristotle’s philosophy. Aristotle ranks among the most important and influential philosophers of all time, but his philosophy can be a bit intimidating when engaging with it for the first time. With this in mind, the class will aim at giving the student a representative sample of the topics dealt with in Aristotle’s philosophy, but also a sense of where to begin should they wish to delve further into Aristotle. A wide range of readings from across the Aristotelian corpus will be included, but the reading loads will be relatively light – the focus will be on getting clear on what Aristotle means in these highly important passages. Class time will be devoted to helping students understand the material and also to providing them with the relevant philosophical context.
