Law and Inequality

Course Description

This course explores the intersection between sociology and the law with a focus on inequality. Throughout this course, we will address the question: how does the law respond to and create inequality? Although we will emphasize sociological perspectives, this course takes an interdisciplinary approach. We will use a variety of materials including judicial opinions, scholarly papers, and newspaper articles to develop a better understanding of this connection. The main class component ill be discussion where students will develop skills in critical thinking and argument formation. This course will explore many different types of inequality as well as different expressions of inequality.
