Living on Stanford’s Campus
Summer Session students come to Stanford from all around the world, bringing with them a wealth of culture and ethnic diversity. Residential life introduces an invaluable opportunity for learning about people’s experiences, differences, and similarities. Since all IHP students live on campus, they have the opportunity to experience Stanford in its truest sense – as part of a vibrant residential community.
On-campus residences typically have their own lounge, computer cluster, laundry facility, and common area. Student rooms are equipped with window coverings and furnished with an extra-long twin bed, desk and chair, bookcase, dresser, and closet for each roommate. In addition, each room has a private telephone and is wired for the Internet. Wireless connectivity is also available in residence halls and most classrooms across campus. Pillows, bed linens, and towels are not provided for residential students, but may be brought from home or purchased at local stores during Welcome Weekend.
How do I apply for housing?
Students who attend Stanford as part of the International Honors Program are assigned to live in the same residence; still, an online housing application must be submitted by each individual student in order to ensure placement in the correct residence hall. All IHP students are required to complete a housing application before the first-round deadline in early May. To complete a housing application for the Summer Quarter, you must:
- Have completed a Summer Session application and been offered admission.
- Have accepted the offer of admission, completed the entire acceptance process, and been issued a Stanford ID number.
- Apply for housing online via Axess by early May, or at your earliest possible opportunity.
- Select all housing options for which you are eligible in the housing application (more information about this process is supplied once a student is confirmed with a Stanford ID number).
What are my housing options?
All students enrolled as part of the International Honors Program are assigned housing in a residence hall that is reserved specifically for IHP students. IHP housing consists of traditional, undergraduate accommodations: double occupancy rooms which may include shared sleeping space.
When can I move in?
Summer Session residences open for occupancy on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Student meal plans begin with dinner on that evening. Housing contract end dates are specified by the Housing Office and will be noted within a student’s Housing Agreement.
How much does housing cost?
The following table provides estimated costs for on-campus Summer Quarter housing (not including meals). For additional fees associated with room and board, see the Expenses & Fees page.

Stanford Dining meal plans feature “All-You-Care-To-Eat” cafeteria-style dining, with options available at each meal to accommodate a wide variety of dietary needs. All undergraduate students with an on-campus housing assignment are required to purchase a meal plan. IHP students are automatically assigned a 14 meals/week dining plan, which estimates to $1,503 for the eight-week term. While it is permissible to modify their selection in Axess (costs will change accordingly), this is not encouraged as it will impact the student’s bill. Information regarding Stanford dining plans is available online at the Dining Services website.
