SVIA Application

SVIA is an exclusive limited access add-on program requiring an application for admission and separate fee. The SVIA application questions are an optional part of the general 2017 Summer Session Application and are designed to give us a better idea of your role and perspectives in the ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Application Process

SVIA submissions will only be considered complete once the general program application is submitted with the application fee. For more info on application deadlines and fees, click here.

Decisions regarding SVIA admission will usually be released with general Summer Session admission decisions but may remain deferred. If you receive a deferred admission decision, you will find out if you are admitted into SVIA 14 calendar days from the day your initial deferred decision is released.

If you are admitted to SVIA, a $300 deposit will be required to confirm your spot in the program. This fee will be assessed as you complete your confirmation checklist after being admitted. The fee for participation in SVIA is $1200 for Enterprise and $600 for Explore. Students in Enterprise will be charged $900 and students in Explore will be charged $300 on University Bill prior to the start of classes.

Application Questions

SVIA Enterprise is an intense hands-on immersion in the practice and culture of the lean start-up methodology. The application is designed in the same manner. In addition to skill and personality based questions, applicants will be asked to answer the following prompts with brief responses.

In 500 characters, answer each of the following questions:

What is a problem you want to solve that affects at least 1,000,000 people? (e.g. The health risks of being stuck in traffic for hours each day.)

Who are the people affected by the problem? Be as specific as possible. (e.g. Commuters in the most congested cities: Manila; Jakarta, Beijing, & Rio de Janeiro.)

What useful skill would you offer to help your SVIA team? (e.g. My team will benefit from my creative skills, especially graphic design (print and web).)

Please describe a time that you were part of an effective team. What was your role in the team? How did you work with your team members in that role? How did you contribute to the team’s mission?

Given the 50 (+20) hour commitment of this program, how will you balance your academic and SVIA commitments?
