Getting To and Around Campus
Arriving to Campus
San Francisco International (SFO) is approximately 25 miles north and San Jose International (SJC) approximately 20 miles south of Stanford. Both airports offer public transport, shuttle, and hire car options that will get you here. Oakland International (OAK) is also an option but is further from campus and can be more difficult to travel to/from using public transport and shuttles. See info about airport shuttles.
The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) can also help you get to campus. Additionally, Caltrain connects San Francisco and San Jose (including both airports) with a stop in Palo Alto. Visitors using Caltrain should get off at the Palo Alto station and take the free Marguerite Shuttle (The "Shopping Express" Line) to campus and get off at shuttle stop #36 - Roble Field. This shuttle stop will drop you off right next to our Check-In at Roble Field on Stanford's campus. See more info about the Marguerite Shuttle and transit options.
Car options include Rideshare services (Uber, Lyft, etc.) and Rental Cars (Hertz, Zipcar, etc.). Destination address for Welcome Weekend is: Via Ortega Dr, Stanford, CA 94305. Upon arrival, your driver should follow the signs on campus to the appropriate drop-off locations. You will be dropped off right next to our Check-In at Roble Field on Stanford's campus.
If you come in a personal vehicle, there are several parking garage options on campus. Both "A" and "C" permit parking spots are free and do not require permits on weekends in the residential parking lots and garages. All other parking regulations will continue to be enforced such as pay-to-park, service vehicle parking, other permit types, or fire lanes.
Student Check-In is near the Roble Field parking garage off of Via Ortega. Please leave your luggage securely stowed (out of sight) in the car and complete Student Check-In.
Then, depending on your housing location, you may need to move your car to your housing check-in location to unpack.
For general information about traveling to campus on public transportation please visit the Stanford Parking and Transportation page and the Visitor Resource Guide.
Special Welcome Weekend shuttles will be stopping at select locations around campus from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m
