Mandatory Orientation and International Student Check-In

  • International Student Check-In for students on a Stanford-sponsored I-20: 3:30 to 4 pm Levin Field
    • If you are an international student who is not on a Stanford-sponsored I-20, you do not need to attend this check-in.
  • Welcome Orientation for all students: 4-5 pm at Levin Field

  • Governor’s Corner Residences (Suites, Sterling Quad, Independent Houses), Branner Hall, Manzanita Park (Castano and Lantana) and Mirrielees: Saturday, 1-6 pm
  • Graduate Residences: Saturday, 8 am-6 pm and Sunday, 1-5 pm; varies by residence – check your Housing confirmation message for details

Commuting Students

  • Before Welcome Orientation, Levin Field: Sunday, 3-3:30 pm

Late Arrival

Students who arrive after normal check-in hours should refer to the “Late Arrival Instructions” table at the bottom of this page for alternative instructions on how to check in.


Stanford ID Card Pick-Up

A valid, government-issued form of identification is required to pick up your Stanford ID card. Please have this ready upon check-in.

If you are a domestic student, please have your Driver’s License ready to present at check-in. If you are an international student, please present your passport at check-in.

  • All residential students, who uploaded their ID card photo prior to May 31, will pick up their Stanford ID cards when they check-in to their residence.
  • All commuting students, who uploaded their ID card photo prior to May 31, will pick up their Stanford ID cards at the mandatory Welcome Orientation. Please arrive at 3 pm to check in and get your ID card before the orientation begins.
  • Students who uploaded their ID card photo after May 31, will be able to pick up their Stanford ID card at the Student Services Center, beginning Monday, June 20. The Student Services Center is located on campus at Tresidder Memorial Union.

Locations and Directions

Governor’s Corner Check-In: Governor’s Corner Residences

Your check-in location is at 589 Governor’s Avenue, Stanford, CA 94305.

If you’re arriving via taxi or shuttle service, please give the driver this address (look for the “Shuttle Stop” sign in the parking lot).

From Highway 280 (the Junipero Serra Freeway):

  • Take the Alpine Road exit, and head east toward Stanford University.
  • At the traffic light, turn right onto Junipero Serra Boulevard.
  • Turn left at the first traffic light, onto Campus Drive Loop.
  • Watch for Santa Teresa Street – there will be a travel circle (rotary).
  • Enter the travel circle and take the first outlet which will put you on Santa Teresa Street.
  • Please be mindful of construction in the area, and watch for Summer Session signage.
  • The second street on your right is called Governor’s Avenue. There’s a stop sign at this intersection. There will also be balloons and a sign directing you to the Summer Session check-in area, but you will not be able to drive there. This will be your drop-off location.
  • For parking, you will need to park on the street, or turn around and park in the Searsville lot at the corner of Santa Teresa and Campus Drive. Parking areas are marked, and almost all lots are open and free on evenings and weekends. Campus parking signage always includes information regarding the hours of enforcement.

From Highway 101 (the Bayshore Freeway):

  • Take the Embarcadero Road exit, and keep left. Follow signs to Embarcadero Road West, heading toward Stanford University. You will pass through several traffic lights on the way to campus.
  • As you cross El Camino Real (a major intersection with a traffic light) and enter the Stanford campus, Embarcadero Road will become Galvez Street.
  • Keep left onto Galvez Street, and turn left at the first stop sign onto Campus Drive Loop. Alert: There is construction occurring at this intersection.
  • Continue along this route and you will pass several traffic circles and stop signs.
  • Stay right when you get to Junipero Serra Blvd.
  • Turn right when you reach Campus Drive West.
  • You will reach the traffic circle (rotary) at Santa Teresa.
  • Enter the travel circle and take the second outlet which will put you on Santa Teresa Street.
  • Please be mindful of construction in the area, and watch for Summer Session signage.

Branner Hall Check-In: Branner Hall, Manzanita Park and Mirrielees Residences

Your check-in location is in front of Branner Hall at 655 Escondido Road, Stanford, CA 94305.

Parking areas are marked, and almost all lots are open and free on evenings and weekends. Campus parking signage always includes information regarding the hours of enforcement.

Graduate Residences

Your specific check-in location is included in the email you received from the Housing Office. You must check in at the location designated for your residence. Please refer to Stanford’s searchable campus map to locate your check-in location in advance of arrival. Stanford is a large campus, and the distances between check-in locations are significant.

If you have questions about where to go to check in to your summer residence, please contact the Housing Office before June 18. Be sure to have your Driver’s License or passport ready so that you can be given your residence keys.

Remember, you are required to attend the Mandatory Welcome Orientation at 4 pm on Levin Field, so please plan accordingly.

NOTE: When using a mobile device, the GPS coordinate links above will launch your default map application with a loaded map of the destination. Upon your arrival to campus, we suggest you access Stanford’s Wi-Fi by selecting “Stanford Visitor” from your device’s list of available networks. Your device will either prompt you to login or you can open up a browser and load any URL and you will be directed to an access page. You will need to click “Accept” in order to connect. Once you have settled into your residence, you will need to follow additional instructions listed in the Welcome Booklet on how to connect to the Internet from your room.

Arrival After 5 pm on Sunday

Students who arrive after 5 pm on Sunday must follow the steps below, in order to receive their Stanford ID and check-in materials:

  1. International students must check in with the Bechtel International Center as soon as possible upon arrival. The Center’s office hours are 10 am to 5 pm. Failure to check in with Bechtel will result in a cancellation of your course enrollment for the Summer Quarter, and may result in having your I-20 canceled.
  2. Go to the Student Services Center on the second floor of Tresidder Memorial Union to pick up your Stanford ID.
  3. Residential students must check in with your assigned residence’s Housing Front Desk.

Please note that all students must arrive no later than Monday, June 20.
