Summer 2021 will be completely virtual.

Take Stanford classes from anywhere in the world during the University's fourth academic quarter. Every summer, Stanford Summer Session welcomes visiting students to enrich their curiosity, creativity, and knowledge. Study alongside a dynamic, diverse student body from more than 40 countries and engage in community building programming that meets you on your own terms. Earn credit and an official transcript from Stanford in courses that prioritize small group work, scheduling flexibility, and hands-on learning. Stanford Summer Session gives you the opportunity to take courses from one of the world’s leading research universities.

University level programs for undergraduate, graduate, and advanced high school students.

Academic Support

A team of Academic Advisors, Student Advisors, and Tutors will be with you every step of the way, starting even before your summer begins. They can help you:

  • select courses and clarify any prerequisites
  • understand grading options 
  • refine your goals and evaluate your academic progress
  • get the perspective of Stanford undergraduates
  • navigate the resources available to you
  • connect with a cohort of students to check in with your peers

Tuition & Fees

Students at Summer Session must enroll in at least one course. Stanford University sets tuition rates for all students. The estimates below include Stanford's per-unit tuition of $1,233 per unit, the Application Fee, and a Document Fee.

Taking one 3-unit course? Costs start at $3,919.

Taking the typical 8 units (two courses)? The cost of attending is $10,084.

*The $125 document fee is a one-time fee charged to all students who are not returners to Summer Session. This fee offsets the cost of maintaining student records, processing transcript requests, and other registration-related services.

Summer Boosts

These focused experiences are designed to let you dive into a topic alongside like-minded classmates. Not to be confused with Stanford courses offered for credit, these Boosts are elective opportunities meant to complement your studies. Get a taste of something that interests you in the Boost of your choice.

Confirmed Summer Session students who take two or more courses will be able to sign up for one Boost at no additional cost (a $500 value).
