Merit-based Tuition Grants

About

40 merit-based tuition grants will be available for undergraduate or graduate students planning to live in on-campus housing who have completed at least one year of undergraduate study. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or better (or equivalent) and submit a short essay to be considered for the grant. 

Eligibility

  • Grades reflecting at least one year of undergraduate study
  • Residential students only
  • Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher (or equivalent)

Tuition grant recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of 8 units for the duration of the Summer Session program or through the Final Study List deadline. Athletic courses (e.g. PHYSWELL, WELLNESS, ATHLETIC) do not count towards the minimum unit enrollment.

How to Apply

To apply for a tuition grant, please follow the instructions in the application and respond to ONE of the following three questions in 250-300 words:

  1. Tell us about one of your recent projects or assignments that made you excited about learning.
  2. If you were given the possibility to have dinner with a person you found intellectually interesting, who would it be and why? What would you want to talk about?
  3. How will attending Stanford Summer Session help you in your academic and intellectual journey?

Deadline

Submit all application and tuition grant materials by January 16, 2024 (9 p.m. PST)

Students applying for a tuition grant will receive their award decisions with their admissions decision on January 26, 2024. This includes students applying during the early decision deadline.

Need-based Tuition Grants

About

30 need-based tuition grants will be available for undergraduate or graduate students who do not plan to live in on-campus housing and who are CA residents. Summer Session will cover the cost of one 3-unit course and waive the application fee. This does not include non-tuition costs. Students should expect to pay a minimum of $721 (document fee, health service fee, and program fee) for the associated fees.

  • U.S. citizen and CA resident
  • Commuting students only

Tuition grant recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 units for the duration of the Summer Session program or through the Final Study List deadline. Athletic courses (e.g. PHYSWELL, WELLNESS, ATHLETIC) do not count towards the minimum unit enrollment.

How to Apply

To apply for a tuition grant, please follow the instructions in the application. You will need to submit a copy of your Student Aid Report from a completed FAFSA application for the 2022-2023 or 2023-24 academic year. 

For your privacy/security, please black out your social security number. Failure to do so will cause the Student Aid Report to be deleted and your tuition grant application will not be reviewed.

Deadline

Last year, all need-based tuition grant funds were distributed by February.
