About SARC
Stanford Summer Session is committed to robust academic support. In addition to Stanford’s world-renowned faculty and libraries, the Summer Academic Resource Center (SARC) offers free academic support services including tutoring and academic advising to visiting and matriculated Stanford students enrolled in the University’s summer quarter.
All 1:1 tutoring and academic advising is conducted online, and academic workshops and some drop-in group sessions are held in person on campus.
During Summer Quarter, students also receive a weekly newsletter with the SARC schedule and updates. Confirmed students can also find this information posted on the SARC Canvas Page.
SARC Canvas Page
The tutoring schedule is posted on our Canvas site week by week. Students confirmed into the program with a Stanford ID will automatically be enrolled into the SARC Canvas page by the beginning of the program.
Students can access tutoring by booking one-on-one appointments in advance or by visiting in-person drop-in tutoring hours.
Summer Tutoring
Tutoring
In 2023, our tutors will hold drop-in tutoring hours at Hillel House, located at 565 Mayfield Ave. Please view our Canvas page for hours and tutor profiles.
Tutors facilitate virtual by-appointment tutoring sessions that support the majority of courses offered in the Summer Quarter. For tutoring by appointment, you need to register in advance and will meet with a tutor one-on-one. We’ll also be offering a limited number of in-person drop-in sessions. For drop-in sessions, you do not need to sign up in advance and do not need to arrive at the beginning of a session or stay for the entire time.
Summer tutoring does not offer SAT, ACT, GRE, or other standardized test tutoring. Our mission is to support students for the Stanford Summer Quarter curriculum.
Services for Non-native English Speakers / ESL Students
Non-native English speakers can come to any tutoring session (STEM, Social Sciences, and Writing sessions). Some tutors offer writing sessions with an ESL focus; you can choose to go to those or to any Writing session. Some of our workshops also address topics that are particularly relevant to non-native English speakers and international students.
Academic Workshops
Academic Workshops are offered in-person every week in a variety of areas. SARC workshops address core academic skills and academic life at Stanford.
Summer Academic Advising
Summer Academic Advisors serve visiting Summer Session students (visiting undergraduate and graduate students and High School Summer College students). Academic Advisors assist with course selection and requirements, drop/add procedures, selecting and changing of grading options, course withdrawal and annulment processes, and the academic petitions associated with each of these areas.
Stanford matriculated students should contact their respective graduate and undergraduate advisors for Summer Quarter advising.
SARC offers by-appointment virtual advising.
